What Death here on Earth, can bring to Life in Eternity!

I had the pleasure of traveling with my parents, 3 sisters and 2 of my nieces to attend a Funeral in Camano Island, WA this weekend.  Sue Reid or better known as "Sweet Sue" was my moms best friend for 19 wonderful years.  She was a woman that LOVED to Serve.  Her passion in life was serving children.
Her son Jared shared this weekend at her funeral, and the first thing he said was "This Sucks".  He was angry, heart broken, confused, and every reason to be, at why a lady that loved Jesus so passionately was taken off this earth.  I sat there during that funeral listening to everything that was shared about her Sweet life, and noticed the most important gift she gave others.  She was SELFLESS!  She served children for many years.  So, as any person that has children or has served with children knows is that you don't get much in return, usually.  When you serve adults, it isn't as pure and selfless.  You will usually get thanked, praised or patted on the back.  Something our selfish minded bodies love here on earth.  If you say you don't need those or like them, you are lying.
I couldn't help but see Jesus all around her and through her.  Even though I was not walking with the Lord at the time I was around her the most, I noticed one thing.  She brought warmth to a person and their life.  She was truly a ray of sunshine.  It could be a cold and rainy day in Washington, but if you ever saw Sweet Sue and her smile you would know that Jesus lived in her and through her.  Most people can smile, but her smile was one from God.  The reason I say that is, Jesus was a man that was Selfless in every way.  He served, served, and never stopped serving.  His Passion was children, and reaching the lost.  I have never seen Jesus smile but I have been around people like Sweet Sue and have been on the blessing side of her warm selfless smile.  She never expected anything in return, and that is what Jesus did here on this earth.

What I learned from Jared's Question of why a person so sweet and so selfless could be taken so suddenly is this.  We are put here on this earth for is to disciple others for Christ and WORSHIP Our Mighty God.  Sweet Sue did this continuously through children.
I couldn't help but praying and talking to God that night for like 2 hours just recapping every thing that day had brought, and coming away with one answer to that question.  Sue had planted so many fruitful seeds and they had blossomed and shared more seeds with others that it was God's time to take her home, with no pain, and very little sickness.  All I could hear yesterday while praying was God wanted to say to her, Well done Good and faithful servant!  So Jared if for some reason you every get this somehow, know that her life was not wasted, as so many other Christians lives are.  Just look at how many people were there to celebrate her life.  Look at how God can use even a funeral and bring more people that don't know Him another chance to hear about His Grace, Love, Faithfulness and the list goes on.  Praise God for the life that she shared with us on this earth!

  1. Thank you son for honoring Sweet Sue once again! You shared a wonderful insight into how God can use a person who gives selflessly of themself for His glory! I feel humbled and blessed that I was allowed to call her my closest friend for 19 years!

  2. Chris, You wrote this so beautifully and from the heart. You're so right that Sue gave selflessly to every child she came into contact with, and did the same with adults. I always admired that about her. She so lovingly and completely touched the lives of my own children as well.

We all have gifts and ministry to do; Sue used hers the way God directed her to do. I am praying that I will do likewise and that, while it may not be with children like Sue did, I will touch the lives of whomever God brings in my path.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and honoring Sue as you did.
